Copper House North Weekly Roundup

Each Friday, peek behind the curtain of a tech-pro-turned-artist and author. I'll share what I've been working on and occasional "just because" stories I think you'll enjoy. I love to share beauty, make you smile or think, and encourage you. I'm also an unapologetic hugger. Don't judge.

A change in (writing) pace - Copper House North Weekly Roundup

The Weekly Roundup, Ed. 93 Hi! You may (or may not) have noticed I’m sending this email on Monday and not Friday. And thus begins a change to the Copper House North Weekly Roundup. Since July, my creative energy has been shifting toward a new love of video and, most recently, animation. The change has been incredibly exciting. I find myself wanting to spend ALL my creative time in this way. 😯 The intent of this newsletter has been to add value to your life in the form of beauty, creativity,...

The Weekly Roundup, Ed. 92 Making art with paper. I recently bought stacks of paper in a rainbow of colors so I can create without limitation. Hello! I almost didn't send this email. It's Friday at 7 a.m. as I write and I normally write my newsletter on Thursday, at the latest. I didn't think I had much to share. But then I remembered that even though this paper snowman may not be "much", he might make you happy. Using paper as an art medium is certainly making me happy! The snowman is going...

The Weekly Roundup, Ed. 91 You know it's Christmas-time when the mums are swapped out for festive topiaries and red bows at the grocery store. Hi! This week I created 1 new stop-motion animation made entirely with paper and inspired by the release of the movie Wicked: For Good today. I loved the original movie so much I've just been waiting for the next one! It's one of the rare movies I'm planning to watch in a theater, with a good friend. Here's the animation: And here's a look inside my...

The Weekly Roundup, Ed. 90 24 years of enjoying this sugar maple in our back yard. I took this photo last Friday afternoon and today most of the leaves are piled around its base. Hello! This week I made 2 more stop-motion animations, where I tried a new technique with each one. No matter how many times I watch the pumpkin animation, I start dancing in my chair when the music starts. 😆 This is the most fun I've ever had with a camera. And possibly in all of my creative career. Here's a...

The Weekly Roundup, Ed. 89 A frame from my 3rd stop motion animation. Hello! This week didn't go at all the way I planned. But it made room for something completely unplanned...and wonderful. You see, Chad came down with a cold mid-last week. And we usually do a great job of not passing viruses to each other. But not this time. By Saturday my head felt like it was underwater. And that meant recording for my YouTube channel (with the camera pointed at me) was postponed. Again. At least, I...

Sawing an "orchid" teardrop earring from sheet metal.

The Weekly Roundup, Ed. 69 Sawing an "orchid" teardrop earring from sheet metal. I drew the design digitally and printed it on paper to use as a template. Sawing out an inside shape, like this one, requires piercing a hole in the metal, threading the blade through it, and tensioning the blade before you start sawing. Hello! This week I finished 3 new pairs of "orchid" teardrop enamel earrings. This design has become a clear customer-favorite and I still love making them, too. I used my torch...

The Weekly Roundup, Ed. 66 Me at All in the Palms Salon Studio, just after I finished "moving in". Thanks to Jannell for the photo because I almost forgot to take one! Hi! It's official: Copper House North has a space at All in the Palms Salon Studio in Cumming, GA! Jannell has this beautiful, rustic cabinet and thought it would be the perfect place to showcase my work. She was right! As of today, there are 7 pairs of earrings, a necklace, and a small selection of cards, notebooks, & stickers...

The Weekly Roundup, Ed. 63 The Cancún earring collection made from sterling silver, copper, turquoise, and love. Hello! The turquoise earrings are finished and ready for new homes. I called this small batch the Cancún collection, since the turquoise blues paired with the sandy orange/brown copper was inspired by our trip there. I'd say they're all statement earrings, especially the block-shaped ones. The colors are striking to wear when visiting a city near the water. But the turquoise is at...

A view of the gondola and lower mountain at Steamboat Resort.

The Weekly Roundup, Ed. 54 Steamboat Resort, Steamboat Springs, CO, January 2025 Hi! Chad and I are back from an extended stay in Steamboat Springs. And what a dream it was. I not only leveled-up in my skiing (I'm finally getting comfortable on "blue" intermediate runs), which allowed me to ski more of the mountain this year, but I had ample time with friends and family, too. I left CO with a full heart and a rested spirit. I also never return from a ski trip without stories worth sharing....

The Weekly Roundup, Ed. 52 Hello! I've been looking forward to writing to you this week, as it's the 52nd time I've sent the Weekly Roundup. Yes, it's been a full year! 🎉 Now, if you were with me at the beginning, you know these 52 weeks haven't been consecutive. The majority of my emails have been sent since last spring. But I'm celebrating the special connection I've had with you through this newsletter, especially in the past year. And I'm grateful sharing with you has become one of my...
