New earrings & a running backstory - Copper House North Weekly Roundup

Hello!

This week I finished 3 new pairs of "orchid" teardrop enamel earrings. This design has become a clear customer-favorite and I still love making them, too. I used my torch to fire them again and, again, wondered if getting a kiln will be in my future. My tank is almost out of gas!

I used the jewel-tone blue (shown below, bottom left) and fire-engine red colors, for the first time, and think they're beautiful for summer. These earrings aren't listed on my website, so if you're interested in taking a pair home, please reply to this email for availability. The price & details are the same as the chartreuse earrings.

Also, if you missed the finished hoops from late last week, you can find them in the shop, here.

You can't take things too seriously.

Last week I shared I started running again. Well, there's a backstory I didn't tell you.

I was excited to meet Moon the first morning we ran together. I met her at the local trail, wearing a brand new running shirt, shorts, and shoes. Because, to me, it was an occasion to be celebrated.

"Good morning, Moon!" I said, as I approached her at the head of the trail.

"Good morning!" she said, and started walking down the path to warm up.

"Hold up, Moon, I'd like to stretch first," I said, trying to get her attention before she got too far away. Now, mind you, it was the first day I had planned to run in years. And I hadn't even started running yet.

And I was 100% out of practice because I wasn't watching my step.

And I stepped in a pile with my right foot.

You know, the kind a dog left behind. And I didn't just step in it a little. I stepped in it all the way. While wearing my just-out-of-the-box running shoes.

Now, I could've easily gotten upset at the unknown person who didn't clean up after their pet. And maybe it would've been justified. But getting angry would've only distracted me and ruined the good mood I was in. It wouldn't change what happened.

So I cleaned my shoe the best I could, acknowledged my shoes had been "christened", and proceeded to have a terrific run that made my day.

Maybe you, too, have stepped into a "mess" of some kind. One that wasn't yours and you didn't see it coming. And maybe you're still angry about it.

If so, shake it off and let it go.

Because time's too precious to let it steal your joy.

Each Friday, peek behind the curtain of a tech-pro-turned-artist and author. I'll share what I've been working on and occasional "just because" stories I think you'll enjoy. I love to share beauty, make you smile or think, and encourage you. I'm also an unapologetic hugger. Don't judge.

The Weekly Roundup, Ed. 92 Making art with paper. I recently bought stacks of paper in a rainbow of colors so I can create without limitation. Hello! I almost didn't send this email. It's Friday at 7 a.m. as I write and I normally write my newsletter on Thursday, at the latest. I didn't think I had much to share. But then I remembered that even though this paper snowman may not be "much", he might make you happy. Using paper as an art medium is certainly making me happy! The snowman is going...

The Weekly Roundup, Ed. 91 You know it's Christmas-time when the mums are swapped out for festive topiaries and red bows at the grocery store. Hi! This week I created 1 new stop-motion animation made entirely with paper and inspired by the release of the movie Wicked: For Good today. I loved the original movie so much I've just been waiting for the next one! It's one of the rare movies I'm planning to watch in a theater, with a good friend. Here's the animation: And here's a look inside my...
